Em crianças, essa condição é caracterizada inicialmente por febre e sintomas semelhantes aos do resfriado, seguidos por uma erupção cutânea tipicamente na região facial. Em adolescentes e adultos, essa condição pode se manifestar com articulações doloridas e inchadas. A transmissão é por transmissão por gotículas ou transmissão vertical.
