Bouba secundária resulta da disseminação linfática e hematogênica de espiroquetas do Treponema pallidum subespécie pertenue a partir do local inicial da inoculação e aparece de algumas semanas a 2 anos após a infecção primária. Os sintomas iniciais mais comuns são inespecíficos e incluem artralgia e mal-estar. As lesões cutâneas secundárias consistem em múltiplas pápulas e nódulos semelhantes à lesão inicial, mas menores. Elas podem ser localizadas, regionais ou generalizadas; podem ulcerar e em áreas úmidas podem mimetizar condiloma plano sifilítico. Placas hiperceratóticas nas palmas das mãos e plantas dos pés podem desenvolver fissuras dolorosas e infecção secundária, resultando em uma marcha característica "semelhante a um caranguejo" | |||||||||||||||

Secondary yaws results from lymphatic and haematogenous spread of Treponema pallidum subsp. pertenue spirochaetes from the initial inoculation site and appears from a few weeks to 2 years after the primary infection. The commonest initial symptoms are non-specific and include arthralgia and malaise. Secondary skin lesions consist of multiple papules and nodules similar to the initial lesion but smaller. They may be localised, regional or generalised; they may ulcerate and on moist areas may mimic syphilitic condylomata lata. Hyperkeratotic plaques on the palms and soles may develop painful fissures and secondary infection, resulting in a characteristic ‘crab-like’ gait. | |||||||||||||||
