Doença que afeta crianças, causada por uma infecção pela bactéria gram-negativa Haemophilus aegyptius (Haemophilus influenzae biogrupo aegyptius). Esta doença é caracterizada por febre, náuseas, vômitos, lesões purpúricas e sepse, que é precedida por conjuntivite. A transmissão pode ocorrer por transmissão mecânica de resíduos oculares infectados, contato com secreção de indivíduos infectados ou fômites próximos aos olhos. A confirmação é feita pela identificação de Haemophilus influenzae no sangue. | |||||||||||||||
