Doença causada por uma infecção pela bactéria gram-negativa Yersinia enterocolitica, excluindo infecções no trato intestinal. Esta doença se apresenta com sintomas dependendo da localização da infecção, e pode levar a uma infecção sistêmica. A transmissão ocorre pela via fecal-oral a partir da ingestão de alimentos ou água contaminados, ou do contato direto com animais ou humanos infectados.
