Botriomicose cutânea é uma infecção oportunista rara de pele e tecidos moles caracterizada por lesões purulentas e granulomatosas crônicas nas quais os organismos formam grânulos compostos por massas bacterianas. É mais comumente associada a Staphylococcus aureus, mas outros organismos, incluindo Pseudomonas aeruginosa, foram implicados. Freqüentemente, afeta as extremidades e pode ser diagnosticado erroneamente como micetoma. Embora tenha sido relatado em associação com comprometimento da imunidade por, por exemplo, infecção por HIV, diabetes mellitus e corticoterapia em altas doses, pode ocorrer em indivíduos aparentemente imunocompetentes. | |||||||||||||||

Cutaneous botryomycosis is a rare opportunistic infection of the skin and soft tissues characterised by chronic purulent and granulomatous lesions in which the organisms form granules composed of bacterial masses. It is most commonly associated with Staphylococcus aureus but other organisms including Pseudomonas aeruginosa have been implicated. It often affects extremities and may be misdiagnosed as mycetoma. Although it has been reported in association with impaired immunity from, for instance, HIV infection, diabetes mellitus and high-dose corticosteroid therapy, it can occur in apparently immunocompetent individuals. | |||||||||||||||
