The isthmus (arch between the left subclavian and insertion of the patent ductus arteriosus / ligamentum arteriosum) is hypoplastic if its diameter is less than 40% of the diameter of the ascending aorta. A congenital cardiovascular malformation in which there is diffuse luminal narrowing of the aortic arch (below the lower limit of normal adjusted for body size). Additional information: hypoplasia of the aortic arch is hypoplasia of the proximal or distal transverse arch or the aortic isthmus. The isthmus (arch between the left subclavian and insertion of the patent ductus arteriosus / ligamentum arteriosum) is hypoplastic if its diameter is less than 40% of the diameter of the ascending aorta.
