Skin reactions from systemic exposure (via ingestion, injection, inhalation, transcutaneous insertion or implantation) to contact allergens to which the individual has been sensitized as a result of prior topical exposure. The allergen may be released from food, drugs, infusion cannulae or internal prostheses. The reaction may be indistinguishable from other types of contact dermatitis including flares at sites of previous contact dermatitis or positive patch test sites; vesicular palmar and/or plantar dermatitis, flexural dermatitis and "baboon syndrome".
