Many glomerular diseases, particularly chronic proliferative glomerular diseases, are characterised by persistent microscopic haematuria with associated albuminuria. This may be associated with other manifestations of kidney disease, including elevated blood pressure and renal failure. Reference: Nephrology WG Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO). Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease. Kidney Inter. Suppl. 2013: 1; 1-150.
