Refere-se à ruptura da membrana basal que fica entre a substância própria da córnea, também chamada de estroma, e a camada endotelial da córnea. É composta por um tipo diferente de colágeno (Tipo IV) do estroma. A camada endotelial está localizada na parte posterior da córnea. A membrana de Descemet, assim como a membrana basal da camada endotelial, é secretada pela camada única de células epiteliais escamosas que compõem a camada endotelial da córnea. | |||||||||||||||

This refers to the rupture in the basement membrane that lies between the corneal proper substance, also called stroma, and the endothelial layer of the cornea. It is composed of a different kind of collagen (Type IV) than the stroma. The endothelial layer is located at the posterior of the cornea.
