Inflammation of the spinal cord in association with Sjogren’s syndrome which may be temporally acute, subacute or chronic and anatomically partial or complete. Clinical features include paraplegia, quadriplegia, sensory loss appropriate to the level of the spinal cord involved and sphincter dysfunction. Other clinical features of Sjogren’s syndrome may be present such as the sicca complex. Diagnosis may be aided by spinal imaging, spinal fluid analysis which may demonstrate a raised protein, lymphocytosis and the presence of oligoclonal bands and serological testing for antibodies associated with Sjogren’s syndrome and lacrimal or salivary gland biopsy.
