Inflammation of the spinal cord in association with anti-phospholipid syndrome which may be temporally acute, subacute or chronic and anatomically partial or complete. Clinical features include paraplegia, quadriplegia, sensory loss appropriate to the level of the spinal cord involved and sphincter dysfunction. Other clinical features of anti-phospholipid syndrome may be present. Diagnosis may be aided by spinal imaging, spinal fluid analysis and serological testing for antibodies associated with anti-phospholipid syndrome including anti-cardiolipin, beta2-glycoprotein and lupus anticoagulant.
