Fraturas do processo condilar são definidas como fraturas ocorrendo acima ou posterior a uma linha demarcada pela linha da incisura da mandíbula e a linha da incisura massetérica. O processo condilar da mandíbula compreende três níveis de fratura e é subdividido em região da cabeça, colo condilar e base condilar. As fraturas da cabeça condilar apresentam linhas de fratura típicas dentro da zona do polo lateral, o que pode levar à perda de altura vertical, ou medialmente à zona do polo, com estas últimas geralmente não comprometendo a relação vertical do côndilo com o disco e a fossa. As fraturas do colo e da base do côndilo podem ser diferenciadas de acordo com regras de base radiológica no que diz respeito à proporção da linha de fratura acima e abaixo do nível da incisura mandibular, e são subdivididas basicamente de acordo com a presença ou ausência de deslocamento ou luxação . Outros parâmetros para definição são presença ou ausência de fragmentação, deslocamento lateral (medial ou lateralmente), angulação do fragmento superior principal e geometria do local da fratura (por exemplo, reta ou oblíqua, interdigitação interfragmentária) | |||||||||||||||

Condylar process fractures are defined as fractures running above or posterior to a line confined by the sigmoid notch line and the masseteric notch line. The mandibular condylar process comprises three fracture levels and is subdivided into the head region, the condylar neck, and the condylar base. Fractures of the condylar head show typical fracture lines either within the lateral pole zone, which may lead to loss of vertical height, or medially to the pole zone, with the latter ones usually not compromising the vertical condyle to disc and fossa relation. Fractures of the condylar neck and base can be differentiated according to radiologically based rules with regard to the proportion of the fracture line above and below the level of the sigmoid notch, and are basically subdivided according to the presence or absence of displacement or dislocation. The mandibular condylar process comprises three fracture levels and is subdivided into the head region, the condylar neck, and the condylar base.
