+Placenta prévia ocorre quando a placenta está total ou parcialmente no segmento inferior do útero. O diagnóstico evoluiu a partir do sistema de graduação clínica I-IV e é determinado por técnicas de imagem de ultrassom relacionando a borda anterior da placenta com o orifício cervical. Grau I é uma placenta baixa, grau II é uma placenta que alcança a borda do orifício cervical, grau III é uma placenta que cobre parcialmente o orifício e grau IV é uma placenta que cobre completamente o orifício.

Placenta praevia exists when the placenta lies wholly or in part in the lower segment of the uterus. Diagnosis has evolved from the clinical I-IV grading system, and is determined by ultrasonic imaging techniques relating the leading edge of the placenta to the cervical os. Grade I is a low lying placenta, Grade II is a placenta that meets the edge of the cervical os, Grade III is a placenta that partially covers the os, and Grade IV is a placenta that completely covers the os.
