+Fibrotórax resulta da fibrose da pleura visceral e se manifesta clinicamente por excursão respiratória reduzida e por fisiologia pulmonar restritiva. Existem dois mecanismos distintos que podem levar à formação do fibrotórax: 1) Mais frequentemente o fibrotórax se desenvolve como consequência de inflamação pleural em pacientes com derrames pleurais, inclusive hemotórax, derrame tuberculso ou empiema crônico; 2) Menos frequentemente, o fibrotórax resulta de doença parenquimatosa pulmonar e pode ser observado em pacientes com tuberculose, bronquiectasias ou abscesso pulmonar.
