Transtorno de estresse pós-traumático (TEPT) pode se desenvolver subsequente à exposição a um evento ou a uma série de eventos extremamente ameaçadores ou terríveis. É caracterizado por todos os seguintes aspectos: 1) revivência do(s) evento(s) traumático(s) no presente sob a forma de lembranças, "flashbacks" ou pesadelos intrusivos vívidos. A revivência pode ocorrer em uma ou múltiplas modalidades sensoriais, e é tipicamente acompanhada por emoções intensas ou avassaladoras, principalmente medo ou horror, e sensações físicas intensas; 2) evitação de pensamentos e lembranças do(s) evento(s) ou evitação de atividades, situações ou pessoas que lembrem o(s) evento(s); e 3) percepções persistentes de ameaça atual aumentada, por exemplo, como indicadas por hipervigilância ou uma resposta de sobressalto aumentada a estímulos como ruídos inesperados. Os sintomas persistem por pelo menos várias semanas e causam prejuízo significativo na funcionalidade pessoal, familiar, social, educacional, ocupacional ou em outras áreas importantes da funcionalidade. | |||||||||||||||

It is characterised by all of the following: 1) re-experiencing the traumatic event or events in the present in the form of vivid intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares. Re-experiencing may occur via one or multiple sensory modalities and is typically accompanied by strong or overwhelming emotions, particularly fear or horror, and strong physical sensations; 2) avoidance of thoughts and memories of the event or events, or avoidance of activities, situations, or people reminiscent of the event(s); and 3) persistent perceptions of heightened current threat, for example as indicated by hypervigilance or an enhanced startle reaction to stimuli such as unexpected noises. The symptoms persist for at least several weeks and cause significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning. | |||||||||||||||
