O carcinoma basocelular ou CBC é a doença maligna mais comum em humanos. Acredita-se que os CBCs surjam de células pluripotenciais da camada basal da epiderme ou, menos comumente, do folículo piloso. Os CBCs geralmente ocorrem em áreas de exposição crônica ao sol e se apresentam como pápulas, placas ou nódulos avermelhados de crescimento lento na cabeça e no pescoço, embora a variante superficial esteja frequentemente localizada no tronco. Os CBCs freqüentemente ulceram e criam crostas. Embora raramente metastatizem, podem causar destruição local significativa e desfiguração se negligenciados ou tratados inadequadamente, principalmente se forem do subtipo esclerosante ou infiltrativo. | |||||||||||||||

BCCs typically occur in areas of chronic sun exposure and present as slowly enlarging reddish papules, plaques or nodules on the head and neck, although the superficial variant is often located on the trunk. BCCs frequently ulcerate and become crusted.
