A campilobacteriose é causada pela bactéria Campylobacter (bastonetes Gram-negativos curvos ou espirais, móveis, não formadores de esporos). A doença é geralmente causada por C. jejuni, uma bactéria em forma de espiral e vírgula normalmente encontrada em bovinos, suínos e aves, onde não é patogênica, mas a doença também pode ser causada por C. coli (também encontrada em bovinos, suínos, e aves), C. upsaliensis (encontrada em cães e gatos) e C. lari (presente, em particular, em aves marinhas). | |||||||||||||||

Campylobacteriosis is caused by Campylobacter bacteria (curved or spiral, motile, non–spore-forming, Gram-negative rods). The disease is usually caused by C. jejuni, a spiral and comma shaped bacterium normally found in cattle, swine, and birds, where it is nonpathogenic, but the illness can also be caused by C. coli (also found in cattle, swine, and birds), C. upsaliensis (found in cats and dogs) and C. lari (present in seabirds in particular).
