+A coccidioidomicose pulmonar difusa ocorre quando há inalação de um grande número de artroconídios, como pode ocorrer durante escavações arqueológicas, ou entre indivíduos com imunidade celular gravemente deprimida (p. ex., infecção tardia de HIV-1 [AIDS]; quimioterapia para câncer; receptores de transplante alogênico , tratamento com corticosteroides; e durante o segundo, terceiro trimestres de gravidez e pós-parto). The radiographic appearance often is a mixture of small nodules and interstitial findings, sometimes called "reticulonodular" or, because it may resemble overwhelming pulmonary tuberculosis, "miliary."
