The patches may develop into bullae. The inflamed patches normally resolve with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation but typically recur at the same site(s), often with progressively more involved sites, following each reexposure to the drug. In extreme cases (generalised bullous fixed drug eruption) the clinical picture may mimic toxic epidermal necrolysis.
